Piazzolla Tango Dinner Show: Be wined and dined in one of Buenos Aires most classic tango venues.
When travelling to Buenos Aires there are a few essentially porteño activities, that really cannot be missed. Exploring Buenos Aires’ rich culture by tasting your way through its culinary delights, savouring its wines and experiencing some of their many passions up close is the goal of any traveler´s itinerary and that´s why a Tango Show in Buenos Aires should be on the top of any tourist’s list of thing to do in Buenos Aires, to explore another perspective of the Argentineans’ famous passion for tango.
This week we visited a Tango Dinner Show at Piazzolla Tango, one of the more traditional tango houses of Buenos Aires. Traditional, not only for its name – honouring the famous innovator of tango, Astor Piazzolla – but also for its location in the distinguished Galeria Guemes, one of the city’s most traditional landmarks and oldest shopping galleries on Florida Street, in the middle of Buenos Aires’ most popular central shopping district.

Piazzolla Tango really is a spectacular venue and surprisingly so, as you would never expect to find a theater of this grandeur below the busy city center streets of Buenos Aires.
As you enter the gallery, you are led down a red carpeted staircase to the entrance of Piazzolla Tango, where the exclusive venue welcomes you with an incredible art nouveau theatre with balconies, adorned with frescoes and draped in red velvet. The theatre of Piazzolla Tango was originally created by the architect who also designed the now-closed Confitería del Molino, another of Buenos Aires’ architectural highlights.

The friendly staff at Piazzolla Tango greets you at your arrival and leads you to your table, where a bottle of wine is already opened and waiting to be served. Piazzolla Tango offers a diverse menu, with a choice of starters (traditional Empanadas or a Cesar salad) and for the main dish meat lovers can choose the delicious and very Argentinian Bife de chorizo (there are also chicken or vegetarian options on the menu).
The food was to a good standard but above all, the fact of siting back enjoying dinner in this incredible, candlelit location was what made it special. Then, as dessert and coffee were served, the stage lights came on and the show began. And we were in for a treat!

Piazzolla tango – as its name already suggests –pays homage to the great Tango composer Astor Piazzolla. A Tanguero who revolutionized the traditional Tango in Buenos Aires creating a new style that incorporates elements of jazz and classical music. Although the tango show at Piazzolla tango pays tribute to the great Piazzolla’s work, it showcases a huge variety of tango styles and periods. It is a complete showcase, a combination of old and new, Argentine folklore and tango.
The Piazzolla tango show is carefully choreographed and the tango dancers appear to have a classic background, so the resulting tango dance is impeccable! All the while accompanied by a live orchestra, whose incredible performances present some of the highlights of this Buenos Aires tango night.
