The elegance of Cafe Notables and La Confiteria Ideal
La Confiteria Ideal, although not necessarily the prettiest of buildings on the outside, even passed unnoticed if you hadn’t identified it as a landmark, from the inside has an air of classic elegance and a faded air that is mixed with its art deco decoration. The Cafe Notables marble stairs, it’s marvellous vitraux and the incomparable arbour that support the central room, will show you why Buenos Aires has been called the Paris of South America and will bring you back to the classic years of the European immigration. Today, although the large tearoom is not that busy, you must try their famous palmeritas (glazed cookies) before heading upstairs to the Academia de Tango Ideal and Clases Milongas. The Academia de Tango Ideal runs multilingual tango classes for beginners’ right through to the seasoned professional. The Cafe Notables tango classes take place Monday to Friday and are open to all ages and a partner is not required and the Milonga classes and shows take place throughout the day from Monday to Sunday. However, make sure you register with La Confiteria Ideal before attending as classes fill up quickly and are limited to only 20 people.
