48h Open House BsAs – a celebration of the city’s architecture / source

Buenos Aires is a city well renowned for its architecture, with a mixture of influences, fitting for a cosmopolitan city home to a melting pot of cultures. With an eclectic mix of Belle Époque, Italian Renaissance, Art Deco and Neo-Gothic styles, a walk through the city is any architecture lover’s dreams.

If you’ve ever wondered what the inside of Buenos Aires’ buildings look like, both the grandiose and the curiously out of place, now is your chance to find out. 48h Open House BsAs is back, for the second year in a row, to celebrate the city’s architecture.

As part the worldwide Open House initiative, this architecture festival was created with the simple concept of spreading the appreciation for architecture by making it more accessible to the general public. Participating cities include London, New York, Barcelona, Helsinki, Rome, Perth and Tel Aviv.

The concept is simple. Over 2 days, the 25th and 26th of October, 80 buildings around Buenos Aires will be open and free for any member of the public to discover.

On the list of free buildings are some of the city’s most iconic edifices: Teatro Colón, Palacio Barolo, MAMBA (Museum of Modern Art Buenos Aires), Palacio Paz, the National Library, the Savoy Hotel and Torre la Nacion. There are a number of lesser known, but no less interesting, buildings taking part as well. Read the full list of participating buildings on the official website of 48h Open House BsAs.

Choose those buildings that have piqued your curiosity from day one, go into the buildings you weren’t willing to pay entrance to, or use the event as an opportunity to discover a new area of the city. You can pick and choose your own itinerary as you see fit.
