How To Survive Buenos Aires in Summer
Admittedly, winter has its charms and you can parade around in your warm clothes in the chilly streets of Buenos Aires, but trust us: Buenos Aires in summer sizzles in many ways besides the climate. Time to grab your sunscreen and check these handy tips on spending the sunny season in Argentina’s capital.
Vamos a la playa!
No, your Spanish is not that bad, ‘playa’ means beach. If there is a possibility of life on other planets, why can’t there be a beach in Buenos Aires? Jokes aside, there really are beaches in the metropolitan area, more precisely the edge of the Rio de La Plata. These are river beaches, which might not have clear blue waters and big waves, but are ideal for cooling off from the heat of the urban centre. San Isidro and San Fernando are the preferred destinations of Porteños to satisfy their desire for water and a breeze without leaving the city. Peru Beach, Dover and Puerto Tablas beaches are the most popular among tourists who come to enjoy the Argentine summer, with bars, good beer choices and, in the case of Peru Beach, great sports alternatives such as kayaking, windsurfing and even wall climbing. Our tip to enjoy the best of the season and still tour the La Plata River waterfront is book a boat tour to Tigre and San Isidro and forget the urban heat for a day.

We all scream for ice cream!
If you love ice cream, you’ll be in heaven in Buenos Aires. If you are not a fan, do not worry, you will be after you taste the handmade ice cream in Buenos Aires. Part of its Italian heritage, ice cream in Buenos Aires is more creamy, with more milk and always with several incredible options of dulce de leche flavours. Ice cream shops in Buenos Aires in summer can be found everywhere, attracting all kinds of people. Plus, they deliver, if it’s too hot to walk to your nearest one. To save a few pesos, remember that it is better value to buy bigger sizes (1/2 or 1 kilo), if you’re in a group. Our advice? Call your friends, families, or anyone near you who needs to cool down and share some delicious artisanal ice cream! Then tell us which was your favourite flavour.

Buenos Aires Parks
It’s unanimous: Buenos Aires is greener than the capital of the Amazon region of Brazil. Okay, this has not been scientifically proven, but it’s easy to believe when walking around the capital. There are miles of parks in the city and its neighbourhoods. Whether you’re in Almagro, Palermo, Recoleta or Puerto Madero there is a park near you. With all this multitude of free green spaces that are open to the public, the Buenos Aires city government was generous in the creation of bike paths throughout these parks. A great activity on a summer afternoon is to rent a bicycle in the park and cycle to explore the city or go park yourself in the park in search of a sunny spot. If you prefer a more complete tour of the best views of Palermo Parks, enjoy a Bike Tour of the area. This is a great way to enjoy the sun and get to know more of the culture and history of the city.

Good Summer Vibes
Buenos Aires in the summer shows off a different side of herself: the social side. It may be the capital of tango, but during summer the city puts on her more social salsa shoes. During this period, the bars fill up from 5pm, with happy hours everywhere, and many people on the street. No matter your age, you will have some place to go: street fairs multiply, cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions take place more frequently in open spaces, and most restaurants and bistros open their terraces to the public to enjoy the weather and light during this season – it only gets dark after 8pm. The rule is clear: the Buenos Aires summer is all about seeing and being seen!
This summer, do something different and go enjoy the best of the season in the largest city in Argentina. Don’t put it off for next year when you can enjoy it now! So join us and let’s explore sunny Buenos Aires to the fullest!
