Looking for an interesting day trip outside of Buenos Aires, to escape the city and see something a bit different? Look no further! A mere 115km outside Buenos Aires is the charming town of San Antonio de Areco. While it may be close by, it feels like it is in another world entirely. This small town is full of tradition and history, and is a place where time seems to stand still. And the town’s inhabitants do their best to keep it that way, carefully preserving the gaucho culture at the edge of the Pampas.

This gaucho culture is exactly why you should visit this November, as San Antonio de Areco hosts the 75th annual Fiesta de la Tradición – Tradition Festival or Gaucho Festival.

So what can you expect at the festival? The Gaucho Festival is a celebration of the gaucho and pampas traditions, with lots to see, do, eat and buy. The festival is a chance for gauchos to show off their skills with a number of competitions and exhibitions, along with a celebration the culture that surrounds this way of life, including typical food, music, folklore and handicrafts. The main event is on Sunday the 9th, where you can watch a gaucho parade, and see these Argentine cowboys show off their skills and take part in rodeo events and typical horseback games. Lounge in the shade under the trees, enjoying an asado, and watch the best of the best illustrate their incredible horsemanship and play authentic gaucho sports. At the end of the day, join these local cowboys around a huge bonfire, a festival tradition.

For a full list of events, check the Fiesta de la Tradición schedule.
