Ferias and Milongas of the Tango Festival

If you’re a Tango lover but you don´t really dance, this is the chance to attend any of the Tango parties and dances (Tango ballrooms) that will take place all over the city.  These Tango dance parties are a great opportunity to get the best out of the Tango culture. For the young, the electronic milongas will definitely be an exciting novelty. Most of the Tango parties will be held in the Usina del Arte in La Boca where entry is free and doesn´t require you to get a ticket in advance, so you can just show up after some sightseeing along the Caminito and its surroundings.

Tango Concerts

For those who prefer the Tango music rather than the dance, there will be a series of concerts with the best Tango orchestras of Argentina taking part. Piano soloists, typical Bandoneon orchestras and Neo-Tango representatives such as Tanguetto and even the famous Orchestra de Tango de Buenos Aires will offer free concerts, much to the delight of locals and travelers.

Tango lessons within the Tango Festival

Everyone from beginners to advanced dancers can take the chance to learn the Tango dance technique from the most renowned Tango dancers in Argentina.  Most of the Tango lessons are free and require previous inscription in the same venue, so make sure you show up at least 30minutes in advance because it can get very crowded.  The lessons cover different subjects like individual techniques for male dancers, traditional movement, Tango ballroom secrets and even a class for blind dancers who want to improve their sensorial capacity and dancers with Parkinsons as a new technique to complement their treatment.

World Cup

With dancers from countries all over the world including Japan, Russia, Greece, Italy, Colombia, Venezuela taking part, the Tango dance World Cup is divided into two categories: Ballroom Tango and Stage Tango. The first one is more about social Tango, the styles executed in milongas or Tango ballrooms, whereas the second has different rules and different styles, with some changes in the embrace, which is more intimate and is therefore considered more authentic and romantic.

Stage Tango World Cup 2012

The Stage Tango category, which includes elements of new Tango, and elements of ballet, can be enjoyed at the Tango shows for tourists and locals in Buenos Aires. Many people refers to it as a “fantasía” (fantasy) in as it is certainly a breath-taking spectacle to see such skilled Tango dancers up on stage.
